A home courtyard

Daily writing prompt
Write about your dream home.

I have been thinking of my dream home since my time in Taos, New Mexico. In 2012, I attended a permaculture class at the Lama Foundation. I also visited the earth ships by the gorge and other homes in the area that implemented some permaculture principles. I started to draw out and dream about the type of home I would love. Earthen materials, greenhouses or solarium, passive solar heating, pools, and gardens. I managed to draw up plans for a house this past year. My wife and I had an opportunity to build on some family property. We did not end up building but we thought about how to use our space wisely and efficiently. We had designed two significant features into the house. The first being a home library/office. This was the only two-story space in the house as I wanted a catwalk for more bookshelves and office space. We also designed a courtyard in the middle of our home. Essentially the heart of the home which was visible as soon as you walk into the foyer. It had a water feature and benches around some large planting areas. We live in an era where tiny homes are sometimes the only practical option. Alternatively, their are those wealthy who have no limit to space. I found the home we designed was both tasteful and spacious. One of the more significant aspects to home design is how it fits into the environment. A pivotal aspect to designing my dream home is the location.
